Islamuddin Amiri, Captain Of Afghanistan National Team, Retires From Football


(MENAFN- Khaama Press) Islamuddin Amiri, a former defender and skipper of the Afghanistan national football team, has retired from national and club competitions after 20 years on the football field.

The well-known player of the national team shared a message on his facebook page on Friday, February 7 announcing that he will continue his football career as a coach moving forward.

He emphasized that he has ultimately decided to end his playing career.

Amiri joined the Afghanistan national team in 2005 and, according to official statistics, played 63 games for the national team.

The former national team player, who holds the record for most national games, received fourteen yellow cards during his tenure with the Afghanistan national football team, scoring six goals and providing one assist.

Islamuddin Amiri, the 37-year-old captain, began playing football at the age of twelve in Karachi, Pakistan, and spent 20 years on the lush green football fields.

Amiri has also played for teams such as Mumbai, the Indian Football League, Dempo, Shivajians, Chennai City, and Gokulam Kerala in the Indian League.

In the 2012-2013 I-League season, he was awarded the Best Player of the Season by fans.

It is worth mentioning that Afghanistan's national football team won the title in 2013 under the captaincy of Islamuddin Amiri.
