Bern cantonal Police were informed of the crash shortly before 11.30am of a plane crash in the municipality of Leuzigen, as they wrote in a statement.

According to police information, a five-seater turboprop aircraft crashed into a field near to the Grenchen air strip. The cause of the crash was still unclear.

All three people – two women and one man – were rescued. Two of them were taken to hospital by ambulances and one was flown to hospital by air rescue service Rega.

The aircraft with Swiss licence plates had taken off from Locarno and was en route to Grenchen.

The Bern cantonal police, the Fedpol federal police, the Biel fire brigade and the Büren regional fire brigade were deployed.

The accident is being investigated by Bern Cantonal Police in coordination with the Swiss Transportation Safety Investigation Board under the direction of the Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland.
