German Tourist Dies in India After Being Attacked by Wild Elephant

(MENAFN) A 77-year-old German tourist tragically lost his life in India after being attacked by a wild elephant, according to police reports on Wednesday.

The incident took place on Tuesday evening in the Tiger Valley region of southern Tamil Nadu, where the tourist was riding a rented scooter. While navigating a hilly forest road, the agitated elephant struck him, throwing him into the woods.

"He failed to understand warnings by other travellers who had stopped a safe distance after spotting the wild elephant and drove ahead," said Uma, a police officer who goes by a single name.

"The elephant attacked him, and he passed away while being transported to a local hospital," the officer informed a news agency.

Authorities attempted to contact the deceased man's family but were unsuccessful in reaching anyone.

Local news reports indicated that despite warnings from other travelers who had stopped at a safe distance from the elephant, the tourist continued driving towards the animal, honking his horn loudly in an effort to scare it away.
