Whole Foods Seeks to Overturn Union Election Results at Philadelphia Store

(MENAFN) Whole Foods, owned by Amazon, has requested that the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) invalidate the results of a union election at its Philadelphia store, where employees voted for the first time in favor of unionizing.

In a legal filing this week, Whole Foods' attorneys argued that the union involved in the election, which took place last week, improperly influenced the process by offering a 30 percent wage increase to employees who voted for unionization and providing free transportation on election day.

The company also accused The United Food and Commercial Workers International Union, which facilitated the unionizing effort through its local chapter, of pressuring employees who supported the company. The specifics of these allegations were not detailed by the company, but the union has denied the claims.

Last week, pro-union workers secured a victory with 130 votes in favor of the union, making up approximately 57 percent of the total ballots cast. However, the results are not yet certified by the NLRB's regional director. Whole Foods contends that certification is legally impossible due to the agency's lack of a third board member following the recent dismissal of Gynne A. Wilcox by the Trump administration.
