Kremlin Denounces Zelenskyy's Call for Nuclear Arms as "Bordering on Madness"
(MENAFN) On Wednesday, the Kremlin strongly condemned Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s suggestion that Ukraine should be supplied with nuclear weapons. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov dismissed the idea as "bordering on madness."
Addressing journalists in Moscow, Peskov denounced the notion that Ukraine should be armed with enough nuclear weapons to stop Russia. "Such statements and remarks, in general, border on madness. There is a non-proliferation regime for nuclear weapons, among other things," he stated.
Zelenskyy made these comments in a recent interview with British journalist Piers Morgan, where he argued that Ukraine should be given nuclear arms to protect its security if its NATO membership is delayed.
He questioned the assurances Ukraine would have if NATO accession keeps doubtful, asking: "Will they give us nuclear weapons? Let them give us nuclear weapons." He also expressed doubt about receiving enough missiles to counter Russia, adding, "But this (giving nuclear weapons) will help."
Peskov also remarked that any potential readiness by Ukraine to engage in negotiations must be based on actual actions, rather than just talk.
