Russian Losses Near Pokrovsk In Jan Surpass Chechen War Death Toll Trehubov

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) According to the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, the Russian army suffered 7,000 irrecoverable personnel losses and 15,000 total casualties (including wounded and missing) in the Pokrovsk sector in January 2025.

Viktor Trehubov, spokesperson for the Khortytsia Group of Forces, said this on Ukrainian television, according to Ukrinform.

"The most active combat is taking place in the Pokrovsk sector, with 24 assault operations in the past 24 hours. These are happening to the south and southwest of the city. In the Toretsk sector, there were nine attacks near Toretsk, Dyliivka, and Shcherbynivka, with urban battles ongoing in Toretsk. The Kramatorsk sector saw three clashes near Chasiv Yar and Stupochky. In the Siversk sector, nine attacks took place near Spirne, Siversk, and Verkhniokamianske," he said.

Trehubov said that based on Syrskyi's data, Russian forces lost 7,000 troops irreversibly and 15,000 total in the Pokrovsk sector in January.

"During the entire Second Chechen War, Russia suffered 6,000 fatalities. That means Russia has lost more troops in January alone near Pokrovsk than during the entire Second Chechen War," Trehubov said.

According to him, Russian forces are currently sending all available resources, trying to encircle the city.

"If they managed to cut off the roads leading to the city from the west and southwest, they could at least claim some progress. But so far, they have failed. Instead, they are losing massive numbers of troops and equipment while desperately trying to hold on to small villages southwest of Pokrovsk," Trehubov said.
