Brussels Police Search for Suspects Following Metro Shooting Incident

(MENAFN) Brussels police launched a search for at least two gunmen on Wednesday after shots were fired outside a metro station, according to authorities.

It was stated by a police representative that shots were heard around 6:00 AM (0500 GMT) outside a station near the city center.

Footage from surveillance cameras, obtained by broadcaster RTBF, captured two masked individuals carrying automatic rifles outside the metro station, with one of them firing multiple shots into the air.

"CCTV footage shows two people, at least one of whom is armed, the shots were fired into the air, there are no injuries," the police representative declared to a news agency.

The suspects ran into the metro system and entered tunnels beneath one of the city's primary train stations, the representative mentioned.

A source involved in the case mentioned that police were searching for "at least" two suspects, although more could be involved.

Brussels transport authorities confirmed that three metro stations had been closed as a result of the police operation, and services on two lines were disrupted.
