Media reports Trump intending on pulling out US troops from Syria

(MENAFN) US President Donald trump has reportedly expressed intentions to withdraw American troops from Syria, a decision that has raised concerns in Israel and among Kurdish forces, according to Israeli media. The move could also lead to potential aggression from Turkey, which considers the Kurds to be terrorists due to their support in the fight against ISIS.

Trump’s plan follows the shift in Syria’s power dynamics after the fall of President Bashar al-Assad’s government in December. Israel has deepened its presence in the region, particularly around the Golan Heights, while Turkey has advanced its military operations into northeastern Syria.

Additionally, Russia, which supports Assad, maintains military bases in Syria, but there has been no clear agreement on their future use. The US initially deployed troops in Syria to combat ISIS but has also taken control of areas rich in oil. There are currently around 2,000 US service members in Syria, a number higher than previously reported.

During his first term, Trump ordered a partial withdrawal from Syria, but the move was never fully carried out. The US presence has been deemed illegal by the Assad government and Moscow, who have called for the US forces to leave.
