Thousands of baby spoons taken back due to choking dangers

(MENAFN) Melii Baby, a Canada-based company, has recalled more than 85,000 silicone baby spoons due to a potential choking hazard. The recall, announced by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on December 21, followed reports of the spoons breaking during use. The colorful spoons, designed with animal themes such as cats, dinosaurs, and unicorns, were sold between April and August 2024 at Aldi, Ross, and online retailers like Amazon and buybuyBaby.com.

The affected products include three-packs with date code 2024-01, four-packs with date codes from 2023-12 to 2024-05, and spoons in five-piece feeding sets. The date codes are found on the back of the utensils. The CPSC highlighted that the silicone material could crack or break during use, posing a choking risk with small fragments. Though no injuries have been reported, consumers are urged to immediately stop using the spoons and dispose of them. Melii Baby is offering free replacements and assures full cooperation with the recall process.

The spoons, manufactured in China, were sold for $8-9. The CPSC also advised consumers to report any incidents involving the recalled spoons or other hazardous products.
