Ministry Of Textiles Sanctions Rs 50 Lakhs Funding For 4 Start-Ups Under GREAT Scheme

(MENAFN- KNN India) New Delhi, Feb 5 (KNN) The Ministry of Textiles held its 10th Empowered Programme Committee meeting under the National Technical Textiles Mission today at Udyog Bhawan, New Delhi.

The Secretary of the Ministry of Textiles presided over the proceedings, which resulted in several key decisions aimed at bolstering innovation and education in the field.

The committee sanctioned funding for four promising start-ups, each receiving approximately INR 50 lakhs under the 'Grant for Research & Entrepreneurship across Aspiring Innovators in Technical Textiles (GREAT)' scheme.

These start-ups will focus their projects on critical domains including medical textiles, industrial textiles, and protective textiles, marking a substantial investment in the sector's future innovation landscape.

In a major boost to technical textiles education, three academic institutions, including prominent institutions IIT Indore and NIT Patna, received approval for grants totaling approximately INR 6.5 crore.

This funding, provided under the 'General Guidelines for Enabling of Academic Institutes in Technical Textiles', will facilitate the introduction of specialized courses in areas such as geotextiles, geosynthetics, protective textiles, and sports textiles.

The committee's commitment to comprehensive sector development was further demonstrated through the approval of 12 skill development courses.

These courses, developed by three leading Textile Research Associations - SITRA, NITRA, and SASMIRA - will cover crucial areas including medical textiles, protective textiles, mobile textiles, and agriculture textiles.

The training programs are designed to enhance capabilities across all segments of the technical textiles value chain, ensuring a well-rounded approach to sector development.
