China imposes tariffs on US products in retaliation

(MENAFN) China announced that it will impose tariffs on a number of US products starting on February 10. This move comes as part of a reciprocal action following US President Donald Trump’s decision to implement a 10 percent tariff on Chinese imports. The tariffs, which will range from 10 percent to 15 percent, are set to affect a variety of US-made goods, according to local media reports.

This new development highlights the escalating trade tensions between the two countries. It follows Trump’s recent announcement of tariffs on Chinese imports, marking a further intensification of the ongoing trade dispute. The Chinese government has signaled that it intends to retaliate in a way that could affect US industries and consumers.

In addition to the tariff announcement, China’s State Administration for Market Regulation has also initiated a formal investigation into US tech giant Google. The investigation is based on a suspected violation of China’s Anti-Monopoly Law, indicating a broader move to challenge foreign tech companies operating within its borders.

This series of actions comes amidst the broader context of ongoing trade negotiations, as both nations continue to grapple with significant economic and geopolitical concerns. The tensions show no signs of abating as both sides seek to gain leverage in the global market.
