Kazakhstan's President Instructs Government To Set Long-Term Nuclear Industry Growth Plans

(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) ASTANA, Kazakhstan, January 28. Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has tasked the government with developing long-term plans for the growth of the country's nuclear industry, Trend reports.

Speaking at a meeting of the extended government, Tokayev emphasized the need to accelerate the construction of Kazakhstan's first nuclear power plant (NPP) due to the growing energy deficit, as well as initiate the creation of a nuclear cluster in the country.

"I instruct the government, in collaboration with 'Samruk-Kazyna,' to develop long-term plans for the development of the nuclear industry. We need a clear vision. Based on comprehensive analysis, the most suitable locations for future NPPs should be identified, as well as modern and safe technologies.

I expect proposals regarding the site for the construction of the second nuclear plant. I want to emphasize once again that our country needs nuclear energy; without it, Kazakhstan's progress will be in question," the president stated.

To note, Kazakhstan held a referendum on the construction of a nuclear power plant, with 71.12 percent of voters supporting the implementation of the project on October 6, 2024.
