Amount of travelers surge in Turkish airports


(MENAFN) Turkish airports assisted 16.3 million travelers in the previous month, such as transit passengers, recording a surge of 10.8 percent annually, Turkish Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu revealed on Tuesday.

Quoting State Airports Authority General Directorate (DHMI) figures, Uraloglu noted that 7.4 million travelers took local trips and 8.8 million passengers tripped on global directions in the previous month.

Turkish airports hosted 171,051 aircrafts, involving overflights, in the past month, contributing to a 9.5 percent surge year-om-year.

At the same time, air load traffic in last month jumped 11.5 percent yearly to 4.5 million tons.

Istanbul’s couple key airports contributed to a large percentage of Turkey’s overall air travelers in the past month.

IGA Istanbul Airport hosted 6.2 million travelers in the previous month, a surge of 8 percent compared to the exact mentioned period past year, with an air traffic of 40,512. Moreover, Sabiha Gokcen Airport, based on Istanbul’s Asian area, witnessed 3.4 million travelers, recording an increase of 16 percent, while operating 20,414 trips.

In the first 11 months of 2024, Turkey’s airports welcomed 214.6 million travelers, a rise of 7.5 percent.

The overall amount of operations in the stated period hit 2.1 million, comprising overflights.
