Taiwan’s Defense Ministry reports Chinese suspicious military movements around Taiwan

(MENAFN) Taiwan’s Defense Ministry announced Monday, several formations of Chinese naval and coast guard vessels are moving in waters near the Taiwan Strait and the Western Pacific, as the island prepares for possible military drills by Beijing.

Taiwan’s armed forces had recognized Chinese People’s Liberation army (PLA) vessels from the Eastern, Northern, and Southern Theater commands, as well as coast guard vessels getting into the region, the ministry declared in statement.

The army movement comes days following Taiwan Leader Lai Ching-te sparked Beijing’s anger by making unauthorized stops in Hawaii and the US land of Guam throughout seven days South Pacific tour, which ended Friday.

Chinese officials voiced firm disapproval to Lai’s trip, pointing to him as a “separatist.” Lai’s trip followed the US authorized new weapons sales to Taiwan, which made China to oath “strong countermeasures.”

China’s presiding Communist Party said that the self-ruling democracy as its own land, notwithstanding never having seized it and views unauthorized connections between the US and Taiwan as a infringement of its sovereignty.
