Angola’s leader urges for immediate end to ongoing conflicts in Middle East

(MENAFN) Angolan President Joao Lourenco called for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East during his annual address to the Angolan Parliament on Tuesday. He highlighted the urgent need for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, emphasizing that the world cannot continue to accept the alarming daily death toll of civilians in Gaza, the West Bank, and Lebanon. Lourenco's remarks come amid escalating violence and humanitarian crises in the region, calling for immediate attention from the international community.

In his address, Lourenco expressed Angola's strong support for efforts aimed at achieving lasting peace in the Middle East. He underscored the necessity of grounding these efforts in respect for the United Nations Charter and the principles of non-aggression, which include the inviolability of borders and the defense of state sovereignty. He pointed out that ending the occupation of Palestinian territories is critical to achieving a peaceful resolution and establishing a sovereign Palestinian state.

The Angolan president further stressed that the international community must unite in its response to these conflicts, advocating for collective action to stop the wars, protect innocent lives, and promote peace and security in the Middle East. He highlighted the global repercussions of the ongoing violence, indicating that instability in the region has far-reaching effects that can impact nations worldwide.

Lourenco’s address reflects Angola’s commitment to international peace and security, as well as its role as a voice for stability in global affairs.
