Middle Corridor Ships Wind Turbine Parts For Azerbaijan's Vital Renewable Energy Project (Exclusive)

(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 2. ACWA Power's Khizi-Absheron Wind Farm (WPF) components are to arrive in Azerbaijan from China via the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR).

Project Director for ACWA Power Azerbaijan renewable Energy Ashley Rowlands, in an interview with Trend, said that construction on the 240-MW Khizi-Absheron Wind Farm began in April in Zone-1 in Absheron and Khizi-3 in Khizi. Recent initiatives have focused on Middle Corridor wind turbine component transit from China.

"We have made substantial progress, with over 40 percent of the project completed. In the coming months, we will focus on installing the wind turbines at the designated sites to ensure the wind farm is operational by 2025," Rowlands said.

Previously, Abid Malik, Regional Director for Central Asia at ACWA Power, stated that the first phase of the Khizi-Absheron Wind Farm is scheduled to commence in the second quarter of 2025.

The facility will be a real powerhouse with a whopping 37 wind turbines, set to bring in a windfall of up to 893 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of clean electricity each year. This will be a game-changer, cutting carbon emissions by over 400,000 tons annually. The plant will be running on the Build-Own-Operate (BOO) model for a quarter of a century, with ACWA Power taking the reins of its operation and maintenance.

Rowlands also spilled the beans on possible future partnerships, including talks with SOCAR on "green" hydrogen.

"We are exploring the feasibility of producing and exporting green hydrogen. Such projects require substantial investment and detailed planning," he noted.

The wind farm and other green hydrogen initiatives in Azerbaijan demonstrate the country's increasing dedication to sustainable energy and green policies.
