Azerbaijan, WB Unite To Combat Gas Flaring And Methane Emissions

BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 5. The Azerbaijan
Energy Regulatory Agency (AERA) hosted a meeting with a delegation
from the World Bank's Global Flaring and Methane Reduction
Partnership (GFMR), Trend reports, citing AERA's press service.
The meeting was attended by AERA Chairman Samir Akhundov, World
Bank Senior gas Specialist, and delegation head Robert van der
Gest, along with other delegation members and AERA staff.
"During the meeting, we discussed the current and developing
Azerbaijani legislation related to gas losses and methane emissions
during gas transportation and distribution," the press release
states.
The goal of the GFMR Partnership, where Azerbaijan is a party,
is to reduce methane emissions as much as possible along the whole
oil and gas value chain and to halt routine flaring at oil
production sites worldwide. It is made up of governments,
businesses, and multilateral organizations.
