Media reports Israel releasing immediate Lebanon offensive threat

(MENAFN) Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has issued a stern warning to Hezbollah, suggesting that Israel is prepared for a rapid and decisive ground invasion of Lebanon if the current hostilities continue. During a recent visit to Israel's northern border, Gallant conveyed that the situation is at a critical juncture, with the possibility of a swift escalation depending on Hezbollah's actions. He described the potential military response as “quick, surprising, and sharp,” indicating that while Israel is currently engaged in a limited conflict using only a fraction of its military strength, this could change dramatically if the situation deteriorates.

Gallant emphasized that Israel is prepared to shift its focus from its southern operations to the northern front if necessary, suggesting that the military response could be both sudden and intense. Despite these threats, he also highlighted Israel’s willingness to negotiate with Hezbollah to de-escalate the situation. Gallant indicated that if Hezbollah is willing to comply with United Nations resolutions and withdraw from the border area to locations beyond the Litani River, Israel is open to reaching an agreement.

This latest development follows Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's recent announcement about reallocating some Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) units from Gaza to the Lebanese border, which has heightened fears of an impending invasion of Lebanon. The situation is further compounded by Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah's recent threats, warning that the group might retaliate by targeting previously untouched settlements if Israeli actions against Lebanese civilians persist. The escalating tensions on the border have raised concerns about the potential for a broader conflict in the region.
