President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov has signed a law ratifying the exchange notes between the Kyrgyz Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Chinese Embassy regarding the opening of the Bedel checkpoint on the Kyrgyz-Chinese border, Trend reports.

According to the official website of the president, the notes were signed on June 12, 2024, in Bishkek and were approved by the Kyrgyz parliament on June 26, 2024.

The opening of the Bedel checkpoint is expected to enhance Kyrgyzstan's export potential, increase trade turnover, and strengthen trade relations with China, including through Kyrgyzstan's participation in the One Belt, One Road initiative.

The establishment of the Bedel checkpoint is part of the Kyrgyz Cabinet of Ministers' action plan under the National Development Program until 2026. This initiative follows agreements made during state visits to China between 2022 and 2024. Approximately 77.9 million soms ($896,464) will be allocated from the Kyrgyzstan budget for the creation of the new checkpoint.

The new checkpoint is planned to be opened in September 2024.
