Iranian dams currently hold over 33.97B cubic meters of water, rising 7 percent

(MENAFN) According to recent data from the Iranian Energy Ministry, Iran's dams currently hold over 33.97 billion cubic meters of water, filling approximately 61 percent of their total capacity of 50.5 billion cubic meters. This indicates a substantial reservoir volume, buoyed by an inflow of 39.05 billion cubic meters since the beginning of the current water year, which started in late September 2023 and continued through late July 13, 2024. This inflow represents a 7 percent increase compared to the same period last year, highlighting improved water availability for storage.

Concurrently, the outflow from Iran's dams has also increased by 7 percent year-on-year, totaling 29.06 billion cubic meters during this period. Despite initial concerns in April about a 10 percent decrease in water inflow compared to the previous year up to that point, recent precipitation events, including snowmelt, have contributed to replenishing dam reservoirs.

However, despite these recent water inflows, the total volume of water stored in the dams has not significantly changed compared to the previous year. This suggests that while recent rains have boosted water levels, they still remain below those of the previous year. The situation underscores ongoing challenges in managing Iran's water resources amid varying climatic conditions and highlights the importance of continued monitoring and sustainable water management practices to ensure water security across the country.
