Austria, India Leaders Okay Contribution To Peace Bridge In Ukraine

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) VIENNA, July 10 (KUNA) -- Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer and visiting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Wednesday that their countries could play a role in building peace bridges so as to end the war between Russia and Ukraine.
Speaking at a joint news conference with the Indian Premier following a business meeting, Nehammer said he discussed with Modi the available options to start a permanent and fair peace process between Russia and Ukraine, in accordance with the UN Charter.
Nehammer said that "there is a very good relationship between India and Austria. It's a relationship of trust which began in the 1950s...India helped Austria and in 1955, the negotiations came to a positive conclusion with the Austrian State Treaty."
"What unites India and Austria is concern over the development of the geopolitical situation," he underlined.
In addition, he highlighted his talks with Modi and stated that they "had very intensive talks" about the aggression of Russia against Ukraine in the ongoing conflict.
He also noted that his country wants to see Ukraine free and prosperous.
Modi's visit to Austria comes after his two-day official visit to Russia where he met Russian President Vladimir Putin.
During the news conference, the Indian Premier called for dialogue to end the war between Russia and Ukraine, and referred that the Austria and India offered support for this purpose.
He affirmed that the loss of innocent lives is an "unacceptable act".
Modi said that India and Austria got into a partnership and a 10-year road map will be set for this cooperation.
The two sides focused on opportunities of enhancing bilateral cooperation in some fields, he noted.
India whose population is 1.4 billion is one of the ley commercial partners of Austria as their trade hit about 2.7 euros in 2023.
Austrian companies are interested in bringing skilled workers from India upon a free trade deal between India and the European Union (EU). (end)
