Doha, Qatar: According to the latest weather update by the Qatar Meteorology Department (QMD), the Arabian Gulf region will be affected by a heavy heatwave over the weekend.

The heatwave is caused by the deepening of India's seasonal low, and its effect on the State of Qatar will be most visible on Friday.

The meteorology department explained that as the wind becomes northwesterly southwesterly, temperatures are expected to rise and reach "late 40s degree Celsius."

QMD asked people in Qatar to be careful, especially during the daytime, and to avoid any outdoor events to prevent risk associated with rising temperatures.
