Israel gears up to implement innovative approach in postwar Gaza

(MENAFN) Israel is gearing up to implement an innovative approach in postwar Gaza aimed at establishing Hamas-free zones known as "humanitarian bubbles," according to a report from the Financial Times published on Monday. Sources familiar with the plan revealed that this experimental model is set to be piloted initially in the northern Gaza neighborhoods of Atatra, Beit Hanoun, and Beit Lahia.

Under this initiative, the Israeli military intends to transfer humanitarian aid from the nearby Western Erez crossing to screened local Palestinians. These individuals would then manage distribution and gradually assume responsibilities for local governance. Initially, Israeli forces would oversee security in these areas.

If successful, Israel plans to extend these "bubbles" southward across Gaza, envisioning them as replacements for Hamas in governing the strip. This strategy forms part of a larger postwar plan proposed by Israel's security establishment and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, which includes three tiers. The broader framework involves a multinational coalition, potentially including moderate Arab states, providing diplomatic and financial support for postwar Gaza.

Within the "humanitarian bubbles," governance would involve representatives from the international and Arab coalition, local Palestinian Authority officials, as well as private contractors and business figures. Additionally, there are plans to train a local Palestinian force within Gaza to eventually take over security operations in these areas.

This strategic approach reflects Israel's efforts to reshape governance dynamics in Gaza post-conflict, aiming for stability and security while seeking alternatives to Hamas's authority.
