Hamas' military wing claims ambushing of Israeli soldiers in Gaza, provokes reactions on social media

(MENAFN) The military wing of Hamas, known as the Al-Qassam Brigades, reported on Tuesday that they had ambushed and targeted a group of 14 Israeli soldiers in the Shuja'iyya neighborhood east of Gaza City. According to a statement on their Telegram channel, they used a "TBG" shell to attack the soldiers who had taken refuge in a house, resulting in casualties among them. Additionally, the Al-Qassam Brigades claimed responsibility for killing two Israeli soldiers at close range in the same area. They also reported targeting an Israeli Merkava 4 tank with a "Yassin 105" shell in Shuja'iyya.

Videos released by the Al-Qassam Brigades showed their ongoing battles with Israeli forces in Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip. Footage included an attack on an Israeli troop carrier and scenes of fighters approaching an Israeli tank to place explosives before withdrawing and causing a significant explosion. The videos were accompanied by declarations of defiance against the Israeli government and calls for resistance against its military presence.

These events have sparked reactions across social media, drawing comparisons to past acts of resistance, such as the iconic image of Fares Odeh confronting an Israeli tank with stones during the Second Intifada in 2000.
