Doha, Qatar: With an increasing number of young individuals stepping forward to donate blood, the community's support for the lifesaving cause continues to grow stronger in Qatar.

The consistent and generous response from donors, both seasoned and first-timers, has been a cornerstone of efforts to meet critical medical needs, and the periodic calls from the Qatar National Blood Donation Centre (QNBDC) for donations have consistently drawn generous responses from the public, said Dr. Einas Al Kuwari, Chairperson of Hamad Medical Corporation's (HMC) Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology (DLMP) during a recent interview with The Peninsula.

“The response from the public to our blood donation requests has always been generously supportive. Whenever we call for blood donations, we see an extraordinary turnout from both regular and first-time donors,” she said.

“Lately, there has been a significant rise in interest among the youth in our community in donating blood, a trend that we find very heartening. We are profoundly thankful to all the blood donors, for their invaluable contributions and for spreading awareness about the critical need for regular blood donations,” Dr Al Kuwari added.

As Qatar's sole provider of blood and components to all public and private hospitals, QNBDC ensures a secure blood supply critical for surgeries, trauma care, cancer treatment, and blood disorder management.

Dr. Al Kuwari describes blood donation as a lifesaving gift and is a powerful act of generosity that has a profound impact on the lives of countless individuals.“By donating blood, one can contribute to a vital supply that supports a wide range of medical treatments and emergencies,” she said.

“Your donation has an immediate impact and can save up to three lives by providing red blood cells, plasma, and platelets to those in need. Your donation can make a difference in surgeries, trauma care, and for patients with chronic illnesses. From infants needing neonatal care to elderly patients undergoing critical surgeries, blood donations are essential across all age groups,” said Dr. Al Kuwari.

QNBDC has the capacity to accommodate a large number of donors at once and has advanced facilities to assist safe donations and blood storage.

“Every donation counts. By taking just a little time out of your day, you can give the invaluable gift of life. Blood donation is a safe and simple act, which makes a world of difference. Join us in supporting the health and well-being of the people of Qatar. Each donation is a step towards creating a healthier and more resilient society,” said Dr. Al Kuwari.

Individuals can donate blood by registering at QNBDC or participating in public blood donation campaigns.

Urging the eligible individuals to donate blood, Dr. Al Kuwari said,“Do consider making blood donation a regular part of your life, and encourage friends, family, and colleagues to donate. You can spread the word by sharing your experiences and the benefits of blood donation on social media. "Try to participate in or organize local blood drives. These events play a critical role in maintaining a steady blood supply.”
