Netanyahu announces Israel fully committed to ceasefire deal

(MENAFN) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Monday that Israel is fully committed to the ceasefire deal proposal outlined by U.S. President Joe Biden, which includes conditions for the release of hostages.

Speaking during a special session of the Knesset summoned by the opposition, Netanyahu affirmed Israel's support for the deal endorsed by President Biden. This marks the first official confirmation from the Israeli side that it approves and stands behind the proposal.

Netanyahu emphasized that Israel's stance remains unchanged, reiterating its commitment to the ceasefire deal. He stated that Israel will continue its efforts until all hostages, totaling 120 individuals including both those living and deceased, are returned. Additionally, Netanyahu emphasized Israel's objective to eliminate the Palestinian resistance group responsible for the conflict, ensuring the safe return of residents to southern and northern regions.

The ongoing conflict stemmed from an incident on October 7, 2023, when a Palestinian resistance group's actions resulted in casualties and the taking of hostages. In response, Israel initiated a substantial offensive in the Gaza Strip, leading to significant loss of life and a severe humanitarian crisis, according to Gaza health authorities.

Netanyahu's address underscores Israel's commitment to resolving the conflict through diplomatic channels and adhering to the terms outlined in the proposed ceasefire agreement brokered by President Biden. The announcement highlights efforts towards achieving stability and addressing the humanitarian impact of the conflict in the region.
