ESCAP Ready To Boost Cooperation With Turkmenistan Across Multiple Sectors


(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, April 27. The UNEconomic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) isready to actively cooperate with Turkmenistan in various areas,Trend reports.

This was stated by UN Under-Secretary-General and ExecutiveSecretary of ESCAP Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana during a meeting inBangkok with the Turkmen delegation headed by Deputy Minister ofFinance and Economy Babanyyaz Yalakov.

Noting the fruitful cooperation with ESCAP, the head of theTurkmen delegation expressed gratitude to the leadership and thesecretariat for supporting Turkmenistan's initiatives to create aUN Multi-Partner Trust Fund and the adopted resolution ofTurkmenistan on the Aral Sea during the 79th session of ESCAP.

The parties considered the possibilities of expandingcooperation with ESCAP in the near future, in particularcooperation with the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE)within the framework of the UN Special Programme for the Economiesof Central Asia (SPECA).

Meanwhile, the delegation of Turkmenistan is taking part in the80th session of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia andthe Pacific (ESCAP), held on April 22–26 in Bangkok.

Meanwhile, a parallel event was held recently in Bangkok withinthe framework of the 80th session of the UN Economic and SocialCommission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) on the resolution ofTurkmenistan, 'Consideration of the conditions for theestablishment of a UN Special Program for the Aral Sea Basin'.

During the meeting, the delegation of Turkmenistan presented apresentation on the problems of the Aral Sea and the targeted workcarried out in Turkmenistan at the state level to mitigate theconsequences of the Aral crisis, including within the framework ofthe Aral Sea Basin Assistance Program.
