Trump to present personal closing argument in New York business fraud trial

(MENAFN) Former Leader Donald Trump plans to deliver his own closing argument on Thursday during his New York civil business fraud trial, in addition to the summations by his legal team.

This move, highly unusual in such proceedings, has been confirmed by two individuals familiar with the situation.

Trump stands as a defendant in a case brought by New York Attorney General Letitia James, alleging that he inflated his net worth by billions on financial statements to obtain business loans and insurance.

One of these sources, speaking to a US-based news agency on the condition of anonymity as they weren't authorized to share the information, revealed that an attorney for Trump notified Judge Arthur Engoron about the former leader’s intention to speak during the closing arguments, which the judge approved.

Neither the Trump campaign nor a spokesperson for James offered comments on this development.

In spite of facing these allegations, Trump vehemently denies any wrongdoing, expressing his disdain for the case through fiery testimony, social media posts, and verbal comments in the courthouse.

On his Truth Social platform, he denounced the trial as a "hoax" and criticized the judge and attorney general, both Democrats.

However, delivering a summation is quite uncommon, especially when defendants have legal representation. Trump, not a lawyer himself, has several attorneys representing him in the case.
