UN Coordinator In Jordan Visits Catholic Center For Studies And Media

Amman, Oct. 26 (Petra) - The United Nations Resident Coordinator in Jordan Sheri Ritsema-Anderson visited the Catholic Center for Studies and Media on Thursday.
Director of the Center Father Rifat Bader presented a summary of the Center's humanitarian media mission since its establishment in 2012, which is to serve both the Church and the Jordanian society under the slogan "Media for Humanity."
The Center participates in various local, regional, and international programs and activities that address multiple humanitarian topics such as human brotherhood, dialogue, the culture of encounter, and the proper use of modern communication means to promote values among human beings and affirm the sacred dignity of every human person, said Bader.
He touched on the role of the global and local church in Jordan and Palestine amidst the ongoing Israeli aggression on Gaza, highlighting the three immediate needs that were also mentioned by His Majesty King Abdullah II during the Cairo conference a few days ago, which include an immediate cessation of the blatant attack on Gaza, followed by the delivery of humanitarian aid and basic materials to the suffering people, and the prevention of new displacement of the Palestinian people.
Anderson said international law safeguards civilians and their fundamental right to life. During a UN Security Council session on the Palestinian issue, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres explicitly warned against any violation of international humanitarian law in Gaza, she added.
The UN coordinator, who has years of experience working in Jerusalem and Gaza, pointed to the important role of religious leaders and their indispensable voice in strengthening human values of peace and reconciliation in the difficult circumstances in which countries of the world are experiencing.
