Kerala: Opposition Leader VD Satheesan Demands Probe Over Distribution Of Expired Medicines In Hospitals

Satheesan, asked Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to respond to the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) report over the distribution of expired medicine to government hospitals and the 'payment' controversy related to Veena Vijayan.

Satheesan stated that the government is mired in corruption. According to the CAG report on the Medical Services Corporation, 1610 batches of medicines did not comply with the expiration date. Expired medicines were distributed to 26 hospitals. Substandard medicines were distributed in many hospitals. Duplicate medicines are distributed in the name of the original ones.

There was serious laxity in quality control. Some companies' drugs have not been tested. The purchases were approved by the Chief Minister and the Health Minister. The minister stated that a thorough investigation should be required in this matter.

Satheesan also claimed that the Chief Minister allocates a significant budget of Rs 6,67,260 monthly for social media management, hiring 12 individuals to make up to 20 posts per month.
