US Department of Defense struggles to meet requirements related to Ukraine war

(MENAFN) The Washington Post revealed on Saturday that the US Department of Defense is struggling to meet the requirements related to the Ukraine war and cautioned that failure to maintain present production levels could risk security at home.

The production of conventional NATO artillery rounds is shortly anticipated to quadruple from what it was before the present phase of the fight, according to US military contractors. But even producing 28,000 rounds every month is insufficient to sate what one source described as "Ukraine's astonishing hunger for artillery ammunition," much alone replenish depleting supplies at home.

The Pentagon's attempts to resupply its own arsenal, which has been badly reduced by its backing for Ukraine, have been impeded by a shortage of raw materials, especially the explosive TNT, that the United States no more produces. Since losing its manufacturing partner Zarya when the area where the manufacturing facility was based opted to join Russia in the previous year's referendum, Washington has been looking for new suppliers, particularly in Japan. Washington now sources the majority of its TNT from Poland.
