5.3 Quake Felt Across Six Regions of Azerbaijan


(MENAFN) A powerful 5.3-magnitude earthquake struck beneath the Caspian Sea, sending tremors rippling across six regions of Azerbaijan and prompting an immediate response from the country's seismic authorities.

The Republican Seismic Survey Center of Azerbaijan's National Academy of Sciences confirmed in an official statement that the seismic event occurred at precisely 1:05 p.m. local time (0905 GMT), originating at a depth of 70 kilometers (43.5 miles) below the surface.

Authorities further noted that ground shaking was registered across the Lankaran, Yardimli, Lerik, Astara, Jalilabad, and Neftchala regions, where local intensity was measured at between magnitude 3 and 4, raising concern among residents throughout the affected zones.
