Officials warn of more flooding after weekend storms in China

(MENAFN) Officials in China warned Wednesday that additional flooding might occur following deadly weekend storms drenched the capital Beijing.

According to the National Commission for Disaster Reduction (NCDR), many sections of northern and southern China "face high risk of flooding" this month, as "two or three typhoons will make landfall or influence weather systems across the country," as reported by the Beijing-based Global Times.

Higher rainfall is expected in north and northeastern China, western and southern South China, also the southern half of China's southwestern areas.

On Wednesday as well, a downpour warning has been declared for the northern part of the province of Heilongjiang.
Since severe rains drenched the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei area this weekend, a minimum of 20 citizens have died and 19 more were reported missing in Beijing and Hebei province.

Officials had to call on soldiers and military helicopters to hunt for and rescue victims while many thousands of citizens were relocated to safer areas across various provinces.

Typhoon Doksuri slammed southern Fujian province this past Friday and has since battered over northern sections of the nation, bringing severe winds and rainfall.
