Treble-winners Al Duhail yesterday announced the signing of Italian player Ibrahima Bamba as QNB Stars League (QSL) sides continue to strengthen their squads before the new season.

The 21-year old defensive midfielder moved to Qatar from Portuguese club Vitoria de Guimaraes, which compete in Primeira Liga, the top-flight in Portugal.

The Red Knights, coached by Hernan Crespo, had earlier released Qatari defender Bassam Al Rawi on loan to Al Rayyan.

Al Duhail management is hoping the 6 feet tall player, known for his speed and accuracy, will help the team in achieving the desired results in the 2023-24 season, which starts next month.

“Ibrahima signing is within the framework of equipping the team and supporting it with the required elements that will contribute to the team's march in the next season,” Al Duhail said in a statement.

Crespo's men were the most successful side in the previous season winning the QSL, Ooredoo Cup and Qatar Cup titles.

They are currently training at home and will set up their overseas training camp in Seefeld, Austria from July 23 to August 11.

Meanwhile, Amir Cup champions Al Arabi also announced the signing of Dutch midfielder Mohamed Taabouni yesterday. The 21-year old has joined the Younes Ali-coached side from Dutch club Feyenoord Rotterdam.

Al Arabi have planned their training camp in Girona, Spain from July 22 to August 9.

Also on Thursday night, Al Rayyan announced its contract with Spanish forward Rodrigo Moreno from Leeds United.

The 32-year old, who has represented Spain 28 times, will bring huge experience to the side as he has also played for Benfica and Valencia.

“Rodrigo is a great addition in Al Rayyan team. He has huge experience of international football and European leagues. The club management is in constant touch with head coach Leonardo Jardim to settle more deals the fans are waiting for,” said Al Rayyan's spokesperson Abdul Hadi Al Sahli.

The Lions, who also signed Brazilian midfielder Thiago Mendes earlier this month, will hold their overseas training camp in Austria from July 17 to August 7.
