EU-Central Asia Holds 2Nd Meeting On Afghanistan And Region
(MENAFN- Khaama Press) European Union-Central Asia Union Holds Second Meeting on Friday to Address Situation in Afghanistan and Regional Issues. The Presidents of Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, as well as the Vice Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan and the President of the Council of Europe, attended the second meeting of the Europe-Central Asia Union on Friday, according to a joint press release by the European Council.
The meeting's main discussion topics were the situation in Afghanistan and regional cooperation.
“The Participants articulated common concern over the deteriorating situation in Afghanistan and re-affirmed their commitment to see Afghanistan develop into a secure, peaceful, stable, prosperous country,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, the Participants called on the international community to provide humanitarian assistance to the people of Afghanistan. They noted the crucial role of the UN in providing humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan in a principled manner.
“They underlined the importance of the establishment of an inclusive and representative government and the importance of promotion of and respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms of all Afghans citizens, particularly women, girls and ethnic groups,” the statement read.
Earlier, European Union (EU) and Central Asia special envoy for Afghanistan met in Turkmenistan Capital, Ashgabat, on 25-26 May, where they urged the de facto regime to lift all bans on Afghan girls and women that restricted their rights to education, work and participation in public life.
They also“underlined the importance of establishing an inclusive and representative government and upholding all Afghans' civil, political, social economic and cultural rights.”
