NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg on Thursday said that Russia cannot prevent Ukraine from joining the military alliance.

While speaking to the media Stoltenberg told media,“All NATO member states agreed that Moscow has no right to the expansion of the alliance. Negotiations will continue and the member states want Ukraine to become a member of NATO.”

The foreign ministers of NATO on Thursday met in Oslo aimed at resolve the differences and coming up with a collective approach before they meet up in the second week of July.

One of the disputed issues was the speed of Ukraine's accession to NATO. The member states want to reach certain agreements about Kyiv's membership in the alliance and reflect a rather powerful message in support of Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed hope at the meeting of 40 senior European officials in Moldova that he would be invited to the NATO meeting in Lithuania on July 11 and NATO countries will make a clear decision about the fate of Ukraine joining the alliance.

Ukraine's allies in Eastern Europe demand that decisive steps shout be taken about Kyiv's membership in the alliance, however, the United States and Germany are concerned that such moves would bring NATO closer to a fight with Russia, the consequences of which will be devastating for both sides.

NATO Secretary-General demanded that NATO should provide security guarantees to Ukraine so that Russia would not invade this country again in the future.
