Doha: The Qatar Professional Women's Network (QPWN) Mentoring Programme recently held its mid-year gathering, which featured an empowering talk by former Ambassador of Mexico to Qatar, Graciela Gomez.

The event took place at the Dusit Doha Hotel in West Bay on Saturday and was attended by current mentors, mentees, and members of the QPWN Executive Committee.

Gomez delivered a speech titled,“The Power of Mentorship in Women's Professional Development.” She emphasised the importance of staying true to oneself and finding the strength to pursue one's goals, regardless of external opinions or obstacles. She encouraged the audience not to let anyone silence their voices and to embrace their unique qualities and aspirations.

“If there's something you want to do, don't allow anyone to move you from [where] you are, find your pose, all of us have it and you have to trust it, and probably if the voice is not strong maybe it's not the place, but if you are convinced – this is who you are and nobody else can move you from there.”

The event left participants feeling motivated and inspired to continue their mentoring journeys. Karmela Palma, the newly appointed Head of QPWN, stressed the significance of providing ongoing support and inspiration to strengthen the mentor-mentee relationships. Palma also highlighted the transformative impact that mentoring can have on personal and professional growth, emphasising the importance of women mentoring and inspiring other women.

The QPWN Mentoring Programme has been instrumental in supporting professional women in Qatar since its inception in 2010. The 2023 programme has already proven to be a resounding success, with mentors and mentees gaining invaluable insights and experiences over the past six months.

The said programme will continue to make a profound impact until December 2023, with applications for the 2024 cohort set to open in October 2023. Aspiring mentees and mentors are encouraged to stay tuned to QPWN's social media platforms for further updates on the programme.
