Qatar football Association (QFA) President sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani yesterday was reelected as the President of the Arab Gulf Cup Football Federation (AGCFF) for another four-year term.

Sheikh Hamad was re-elected by acclamation during the federation's Ordinary General Assembly meeting which was held in Doha. Oman's Sheikh Salem bin Saeed Al Wahaibi also retained his position as Vice President of the body.

Moreover, Kuwait was confirmed as host nation for the 26th edition of Gulf Cup which will take place in December 2024.

Sheikh Hamad will continue in his influential role until 2027, having held the top position since 2016 when the AGCFF was formed.

Following the conclusion of the Ordinary General Assembly, Sheikh Hamad thanked the members for the confidence they have vested on him since the inception of the Federation.

“Today, the General Assembly witnessed a quick review of what was accomplished in the previous period and touched on some of the crises that the Arab Gulf Cup Federation went through, as well as work on developing competitions during the coming period,” Sheikh Hamad said.

Sheikh Hamad expressed his enthusiasm for the future, stating,“We are entering a transformative phase, particularly with the recent amendments to the Arab Gulf Cup Federation's statutes. These changes will pave the way for the creation of diverse championships under the federation's umbrella, with a strong focus on club tournaments and age-group competitions that we hold in high regard.”

During the Assembly held at the Ritz Carlton Doha, yesterday, the members also discussed key topics, including the adoption of the minutes of the General Assembly meeting held in Basra on the sidelines of the Gulf 25, the administrative report and the activities that were implemented.

A new committee was formed to review and develop the regulations that contribute to the development of the Arab Gulf Cup Federation tournaments at the club and age group levels to help contribute to the establishment of tournaments that raise the level of football in the region.

“The committee will be headed by the Federation's Secretary General, Mr. Jassim Al Rumaihi,” Sheikh Hamad said.

“The decision to postpone the Gulf 26 tournament from December 2023 to December 2024 was made to allow all participating teams ample time for necessary preparations, ensuring they are in optimal form following the conclusion of the 2023 Asian Cup which will be hosted by Qatar,” Sheikh Hamad noted.

The General Assembly also witnessed the vote on the alternative country for the Gulf 26, according to the tournament regulations.

Secretary-General Al Rumaihi added:“The General Assembly asked the member states to determine the alternative host country for Gulf 26, and that will be revealed within one month.”

Kuwait is preparing to host the Gulf Cup for the fifth time, after the years 1974, 1990, 2003, and 2017.

The Assembly was also attended by President of the Bahrain Football Association President Sheikh Ali bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Kuwait Football Association President Ahmed Al Shaheen, Acting President of the UAE Football Federation Abdullah Al Junaibi, Iraq Football Association Vice President Ali Jabbar, Vice President of the Oman Football Association Federation Mohsen bin Hamad Al Masrouri, Representative of the Saudi Federation Khalid bin Abdulaziz bin Mejren, QFA member Ahmed Abdel Aziz Al Bouainain, QFA General Secretary Mansoor Al Ansari and Secretary-General of the Yemen Football Association Dr. Hamid Al Shaibani.
