Foreign Ministers of Turkey, Russia, Iran, Syria to Meet in Moscow for Syria Talks

(MENAFN) On Monday, Mevlut Cavusoglu, the Foreign Minister of Turkey, announced that a meeting between the foreign ministers of Turkey, Russia, Iran, and Syria is expected to take place in early May in Moscow. In an interview broadcasted live on Turkish Broadcaster a Haber, Cavusoglu stated that the meeting was likely to take place at the beginning of May, according to the preliminary information received from the Russians. The issue was also discussed during Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov's visit to the capital Ankara last week.

The meeting aims to revive the political process in Syria, ensure lasting stability and peace, fight against terrorism, and guarantee the country's border and territorial integrity, added Cavusoglu. He stressed the need for a permanent solution to rebuild Syria and highlighted the importance of lasting peace for all involved parties.

In addition to discussing the aforementioned issues, Cavusoglu also revealed that the four ministers may prepare for a possible leaders' summit during the forthcoming meeting. This follows a meeting in December 2020, where defense ministers and intelligence chiefs of Turkey, Russia, and the Syrian regime met in Moscow and agreed to continue tripartite meetings to ensure stability in Syria and the wider region.

The upcoming meeting is significant as it brings together key players in the Syrian conflict, providing an opportunity for them to discuss and coordinate efforts towards a lasting solution. The meeting also highlights the ongoing diplomatic efforts to stabilize the region and promote peace, despite the complex political landscape and ongoing tensions between the involved parties.
