Croatia expresses strong support for Kosovo's participation in international organizations, EU path
(MENAFN) On Tuesday, the Croatian foreign Minister Gordan Grlic Radman expressed his country's strong support for Kosovo's participation in all international organizations, including the European Union. He made these remarks after holding a meeting with his Kosovar counterpart Donika Gervalla-Schwarz in Zagreb, the capital of Croatia. Grlic Radman emphasized that Kosovo's pro-EU stance has made it a "reliable partner," and he welcomed the Kosovar government's commitment to the EU path.
Gervalla-Schwarz, on her part, appreciated Croatia's continuous support and assistance in Kosovo's journey towards the Euro-Atlantic path. She said that the citizens of both Croatia and Kosovo share the same goal of becoming members of the Euro-Atlantic family, and they have a lot of work to do together to achieve that goal.
The Croatian foreign minister's remarks come at a time when the European Union's enlargement strategy towards the Western Balkans is under discussion. The European Union has repeatedly stated its support for the region's integration into the bloc, with Croatia being the most recent member state to join in 2013. However, the path towards European Union membership for the Western Balkans has been challenging, with issues such as corruption, rule of law, and unresolved disputes between the countries posing significant obstacles.
Kosovo declared independence from Serbia in 2008, but its status as a sovereign state has not been recognized by several European Union member states, including Spain, Greece, and Cyprus. However, many countries, including Croatia, have recognized Kosovo's independence and supported its integration into international organizations. The recent statements by the Croatian foreign minister reaffirm the country's commitment to supporting Kosovo's path towards Euro-Atlantic integration and strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries.
