Bomb Attack Kills Nine, Wounds 13 In SW Pakistan


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ISLAMABAD, March 6 (KUNA) -- At least nine personnel of the police forces' Balochistan Constabulary were killed and 13 others received injuries in a bomb attack in Pakistan's southwestern Balochistan province on Monday, said officials.
A senior police official, Senior Superintendent of Police Mahmood Notezai in a statement to the media confirmed that at least nine personnel of the Balochistan Constabulary were killed while 13 others were injured in the blast that took place in the Bolan district of Balochistan.
He further said that the personnel was coming back from Sibi to Quetta, the provincial capital, when their van was targeted by a bomb on Kambri Bridge in the area bordering the Sibi and Kachhi districts.
The official suspected that the blast was a suicide attack; however, the exact nature of the attack will be ascertained after investigation. The injured were shifted to the nearest government-run Sibi Civil Hospital where an emergency has been imposed at all hospitals in the district.
The area has been cordoned off and a search operation is underway. No group has so far claimed responsibility for the blast.
Prime Minister of Pakistan, Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has expressed deep grief and sorrow over the killing of personnel of Balochistan Constabulary in the blast.
He extended his condolence and sympathy to the bereaved families of the martyrs. The premier directed the authorities concerned to provide the best medical facilities to the injured and paid rich tribute to the sacrifices of martyrs.
He said that terrorism in Balochistan is part of a nefarious agenda of destabilizing the country and reiterated the commitment to purge the motherland from the menace of terrorism. (end)
