TCL, SEMP to Expand Collaboration into Photovoltaic Sector

(MENAFN) TCL, a leading Chinese electronics company, is looking to further enhance cooperation with Brazilian home appliance manufacturer SEMP, as executives from both companies held a meeting in Shenzhen, China this week. The founder of SEMP, Affonso Brandão Hennel, who is 94 years old, travelled from Brazil to meet with Li Dongsheng, Chairman of TCL Group. The main aim of their meeting was to explore opportunities for collaboration and expand their business partnership into the photovoltaic (PV) sector.

SEMP, which was established in 1942, became the first company in Brazil to produce domestically-manufactured radios and televisions. The collaboration between TCL and SEMP began in 2016, when Hennel and Li established the Brazil-based joint venture SEMP TCL. Since then, the market share of SEMP TCL brand TV sets has steadily increased, and it currently ranks among the top three in Brazil. This is significant considering that Brazil is the fifth most populous country in the world, and has tremendous market potential.

According to Hennel, there are many business opportunities between China and Brazil, and he believes that the co-manufactured products have achieved great success in Brazil. Hennel further added that he places confidence in matching Brazil's necessities and China's capabilities as a supplier, and that SEMP has continuously carried out technological transformations in production since its collaboration with TCL.

TCL Tech, which is the electrical branch of TCL, generated over 160 billion yuan (about 23 billion U.S. dollars) in revenue in 2022. The company has 43 R&D centers and 32 manufacturing bases globally, and its business spans over 160 countries and regions. Hennel believes that the story of the two companies is a true reflection of Chinese enterprises accelerating participation in the international market and achieving win-win cooperation with the global market.

"China presents the greatest opportunity for Brazilian companies to establish partnerships," said Hennel. He added that SEMP is happy to be able to start a new partnership in PV business with TCL in the future. The joint venture between TCL and SEMP has demonstrated the potential for business collaboration between Chinese and Brazilian companies, and has led to significant growth opportunities for both companies.
