Report Reveals RT Videos Continue to Flood YouTube Despite Ban

(MENAFN) A new report from news and information watchdog Newsguard reveals that videos from Russia's state-controlled TV network RT are continuing to flood YouTube, despite a ban.

The report identifies dozens of professionally produced propaganda films on the platform, which promote a false narrative about the Ukraine conflict. One year on from RT's ban, Russia is continuing its online disinformation campaigns, seeking to undermine Ukraine's credibility and demonize the country, according to the report.

Madeline Roache, the author of the study, said that these key narratives in the Russian disinformation campaign aim to erode support for Ukraine internationally.

Newsguard has discovered 250 uploads of 50 RT-created videos about the conflict across more than 100 YouTube channels since the ban.

These videos, which have reportedly had over half a million views in total, perpetuate "egregious" falsehoods about Ukraine, such as the Maidan political upheaval in 2014 being a "Western-backed coup," and Ukrainian authorities committing "genocide" against Russian speakers in Donbas.

The report highlights the ongoing problem of disinformation campaigns and the spread of false narratives on social media platforms.

YouTube has been trying to combat the spread of misinformation on its platform, but the Newsguard report shows that more needs to be done to prevent state-controlled media outlets from promoting propaganda.
