World Government Summit urges leaders to make positive decisions at inflection point in history

(MENAFN) World leaders have an unprecedented opportunity to make positive decisions on policies that could impact future generations, according to speakers at the World Government Summit. Frederick Kempe, CEO of the Atlantic Council, explained that the world has reached a "plastic moment where history can be shaped – for better or for worse." He referred to previous turning points in history, including World War One, where the opportunity was missed to establish the League of Nations. Kempe also highlighted the current geopolitical climate, stating that since 2020, there have been significant historical moments, such as the outbreak of Covid-19 and Putin's invasion of Ukraine. He described the war in Ukraine as a "wake-up call for us all," and warned that the current situation could end well or not, making 2023 a hinge year.

John Rakolta Jr., Chairman of construction firm Walbridge, and Soumitra Dutta, Dean of Said Business School at the University of Oxford, also stressed the importance of global cooperation. Rakolta said that the private sector had the ability to identify and solve problems, measuring risks and learning from mistakes. Meanwhile, Dutta emphasized the need for good governance and institutions to attract investment, saying that the world is divided between the haves and the have-nots. He added that coming together is key to achieving greatness.

The final session of the World Government Summit, titled "Enhancing a Global Economy for a Growing Population," discussed the role of technology in resolving global challenges. David Rosenberg, CEO of AeroFarms, emphasized the need to embrace technologies such as robotics, animation, and computing to address issues such as food and water shortages caused by climate, war, and natural disasters. Meanwhile, Michala Marcussen, group chief economist of Societe Generale, stressed the importance of global cooperation and working together across borders to achieve positive outcomes.

In summary, the speakers at the World Government Summit emphasized that the current global situation presents a critical opportunity for leaders to make positive decisions on policies that could shape the future for generations to come. The need for global cooperation and the importance of embracing technology were also highlighted as key to addressing global challenges.
