Morocco detains British national in connection with fatal drive-by shooting

(MENAFN) Following a "day and night" multi-agency manhunt, a criminal sought by United Kingdom police in connection with a fatal drive-by shooting was apprehended at the Moroccan frontier, according to the Daily Mail.

A United Kingdom police investigation into the drive-by slaying of 50-year-old Robert Powell in 2020 focused on Nana Oppong, 42.

Oppong was added to Interpol's Red Notice, which notifies law enforcement agencies throughout the world about wanted fugitives, and the National Crime Agency's list of most-wanted criminals.

Oppong was detained by Moroccan border officials late last year after attempting to enter from Spain on fake passports, according to United Kingdom police, but the information was kept under wraps for operational and security reasons.

Oppong, the seventh person from the NCA most-wanted list to be apprehended, is currently being held in custody as he awaits extradition to the United Kingdom.

"Oppong’s arrest came about after a sustained campaign to trace him and because of the vigilance of our Moroccan partners and support from Interpol," claimed NCA regional manager in Spain Steve Reynolds.
