Latvia Downgrades Diplomatic Ties With Russia

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) MOSCOW, Jan 24 (KUNA) -- Latvia on Tuesday said it would cut down diplomatic ties with Russia in a show of support for neighboring Estonia, while Riga has ordered Moscow's ambassador to leave the country within one month.
A statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry revealed, Latvian authorities have also recalled their Ambassador from Moscow following the decision to suspend Russian Ambassador from Riga as of February 24.
Latvian authorities have also decided to downgrade any diplomatic ties and relations with Russia, as part of the international initiative of cutting ties with the Russia over its war with Ukraine, measures that Moscow vowed to retaliate against.
Estonia announced similar measures a day earlier, saying it would downgrade diplomatic ties with Russia, in addition to expelling Moscow's ambassador during the coming weeks.
Former Soviet Bloc members Latvia, Luthuania and Estonia were invited to the Alliance Prague summit in 2022 for accession talks, which later lead to the largest wave of enlargement in NATO History. (end
