Ankara accepts postponement of UN cross-border device aid sending to Syria

(MENAFN) Ankara confirmed the postponement of the UN cross-border device for humanitarian help to northwest Syria for a six-month period, according to the Turkish Foreign Ministry on Monday.

"The UN mechanism plays a vital role in the delivery of urgent humanitarian assistance to 4.1 million people in need in this region," as read by a ministry declaration.

The scale of the humanitarian disaster in northwestern Syria and local steadiness require the longer-term maintenance of the UN mechanism, it also read.

"Türkiye, which has maintained its cooperation with the international community to this end, will continue to do so in the future," the ministry added.

The UN on Monday prolonged a resolution that lets the use of the Bab al-Hawa frontier crossing through Türkiye to send humanitarian assistance into northwestern Syria, the only remaining available way into the besieged area.
