(MENAFN- Khaama Press) Afghanistan was a major beneficiary of India's military training programs among the regional countries before the fall of the Republic government in the dim-August of 2021.
The Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDFA) was allowed to apply for up to 1,000 slots each year at Indian institutes, including the Indian Army Academy in Dehradun and the Officers Training Academy in Chennai.
After the fall of Kabul and took over of Afghanistan by the present regime, the Afghan officers and police who were in training in India could return to Afghanistan.
However, after the fall of Kabul, the Indian government allowed 185 Cades of the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDFS), who were stranded in the country, to undergo a 12-month training or receive medical care. despite that, now they are facing an uncertain future in New Delhi.
The officials in New Delhi said they had further training to advance their knowledge and better serve their nation. However, they expressed sorrow that they could not return to their country to serve the nation.
They also stated that neither they could return home nor financially get support. As a result, they are struggling financially and facing psychological issues.
Despite calling for a national amnesty, the acting administration in Afghanistan still reports detained, prosecuted, tortured, and missing dozens of former Afghan army soldiers, police officers, and former national security personnel, said one of the officers.
Meanwhile, according to the Taliban-run defence ministry, 25 former army officers have reportedly returned to Afghanistan after completing training programmes in New Delhi.
