Kuwait’s Defense Ministry to collaborate with parliamentary investigation into military agreements

(MENAFN) Kuwait’s Defense Ministry has stated it will collaborate with a parliamentary investigation into alleged dishonesty in two multi-billion dollar agreements.

The National Assembly on Wednesday proclaimed the creation of a panel to investigate the ministry’s USD8.7 billion agreement to buy Eurofighter warplanes and another USD1 billion agreement to purchase 30 Caracal army helicopters from Airbus.

“The ministry affirms the necessity of co-operation between the ministry and the National Assembly to ponder any issues and that such co-ordination falls within the parliament jurisdiction and is warranted for serving public interest,” on the words of Minister of Defense Sheikh Abdullah Al Sabah.

Kuwait’s administration in January mentioned two senior army officers for prosecution over the Eurofighter agreement after a probe publicized that the cost of the planes was improperly increased.

Kuwait ordered 28 Eurofighter Typhoon planes valued at approximately USD8.7 billion from a consortium of European firms in 2016.
