The Minister of
Security, Juan Manuel Pino, made an institutional tour with the United States Ambassador, Mari Carmen Aponte and Panamanian Foreign Minister Janaina Tewaney to update her on the security and migration situation in the Darién province.

They were in the communities of Bajo Chiquito and the immigration reception centers in San Vicente.

Pino explained to the ambassador the reality that hundreds of migrants who have passed through Panama on their way to the United States have had to experience and the work that has been done to care for the population of irregular migrants who have been offered food, accommodation and medical care.

'The Senafront has done an intense job, in addition to saving human lives it has strengthened the communities while dismantling organizations dedicated to assaulting migrants,' he said.


Ambassador Aponte recognized the work being done by the Ministry through the security forces that protect the area and, above all, the migrants who are in such a vulnerable situation that it leads us to the countries to unite in the search for solutions

Also participating in this tour were the director of the National Border Service (Senafront), Oriel Ortega, and the director of the National Migration Service, Samira Gozaine, who explained that“this year 230,000 people have passed through
the jungle of Darién and that the month of October has been the most critical, with 60,000 people passing
